The ancient mystery schools taught their students how to achieve a state of consciousness known as seer-adept. This state is characterized by the ability to perceive things clearly and directly, without the interference of the mind. The seer-adept is able to suspend the mechanical action of the brain and receive impressions directly from their spirit. This means that their visions are uncolored and undistorted, whereas the clairvoyant, who is unable to control the vibrations of the astral waves, may perceive broken images through the medium of the brain.

The mystery schools taught their students to achieve the state of seer-adept through a variety of methods, including meditation, ritual, and study of sacred texts. One important practice was to cultivate deep concentration, or dharana. Dharana is the sixth limb of yoga, and it is a state in which the mind is focused on a single object or thought. In the state of dharana, the body becomes still and silent, and the mind is able to access higher levels of consciousness.

Once the student had achieved a deep state of concentration, they were taught how to control their minds and purify their consciousness. This was necessary to ensure that their visions were not influenced by their personal biases or desires. The mystery schools also taught their students how to discern between true and false visions, and to be careful about sharing their visions with others.

Thus, the ability to achieve the state of seer-adept was highly valued in the mystery schools. It was seen as a sign of spiritual progress and a prerequisite for true enlightenment.
